I'm not sure there are many more innovations to be had with comics as a story telling medium. But a good story will still be a good story, even when told conventionally, won't it? You see, Hollywood seem to have gone completely the other way. With their patented plot by numbers technique and their over reliance on CG, story seems to be going by-the-by. More often the actors are delivering their lines in front of a blue screen - it takes a particularly good actor to imagine the entire scene laid our before them - and how many of those are around these days? My point is that if you start with a good story, with plot twists, strong characters and suspense, you can let the innovations in technique fall where they may....

But then, I'm a writer. I would say that...

Completely agree (but, then, you knew I would).

Speaking of the strengths/conventions of the medium, though, Will Eisner is the oft-acknowledged master. Anyone who's not read his "Contract with God" trilogy really ought to, if only for a glimpse of comics' potential.

Having said that, I personally believe that there's a lot that could be done with comics as an on-screen medium, which to the best of my knowledge remains largely unexplored. I have some ideas in mind which may see the light of day soon*.
